Profession & Vocation

Where I come from

I was born in Haltern am See, went to school in the Sauerland, learned to read, write and draw – and have never wanted to do anything else since. After graduating from high school, I lived in Central America and learned new painting techniques there. Since returning to Germany, I have been working as a freelancer for various media.

What I have learned

First I did a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, then a Master’s in philosophy. In the process, I made such good friends with the Stoics that I wrote a doctoral thesis on ancient theories of happiness. Since then, I’ve been asking a lot of questions, writing about the answers – and on the trail of happiness.

Who I am

For me, writing means understanding the world and people a little better every day. My source is the people I speak with in German, English and Spanish. For me, the highest art is to translate complex issues factually correct into understandable sentences and strong images.

Why I love philosophy

Philosophy is the “love of wisdom”. On its way to wisdom, it tries to understand the world and human existence – and to find ideas for a good life. Philosophy chooses its arguments carefully, weighs them and ponders them, breaks them down into individual parts and reassembles them into a small work of art. In this way, different levels emerge that surprise us with that certain something.

Where I go

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart,” Confucius is said to have said.
Eight words that sound like a banal calendar saying – and yet can be a simple but effective guideline for a successful life. I would also like to base my work on these words: That is why I am always open to exciting projects and interesting topics.

Cooperation

Let’s be honest: we all have topics that are better off with other people. Either because they are less interesting to us, we are not familiar with them – or because they contradict our values.

  • Weapons lobby
  • Chemical and pharmaceutical industry
  • Fossil energy
  • Animal products
  • Car and airline industry

Whether I’m writing about FAL tubes or illustrating an aorta transplant, the process our joint project goes through is always the same:

1. Understand the content

  • Researching scientifically
  • Checking sources, checking facts
  • Ask questions until the details are clear

2. understand the audience

  • Find out prior knowledge, questions and needs
  • Research target groups and create personas
  • Anticipate audience questions

3. package the message

  • Choose text, image or other medium
  • Match style and level to target audience
  • Use appropriate communication channels
