Vision boards for creatives: Create a digital vision board.

Dreaming and planning combined in one

Vision boards are powerful tools for creatives to visually represent goals and aspirations. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to create a compelling digital vision board and combine motivational visuals with design elements.

What is a vision board?

A vision board is a collage of images, text, and graphics that visually represent personal goals and desires. It is based on the concept of the “law of attraction,” suggesting that focusing on positive goals increases the likelihood of achieving them. Simply put, it helps you create a picture of what your ideal future should look like: from dream vacations and the perfect partner to your ideal professional life.

Why create a digital vision board?

Digital vision boards give creatives like you the flexibility to design and experiment with various elements without needing physical materials. You don’t have to run to a kiosk to buy overpriced glossy magazines just to find images to paste. Instead, you can easily save, share, or use your vision board as a desktop background. Plus, you can update it anytime as your goals change.

If you prefer to work old-school with paper, you can simply order a set of images.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Digital Vision Board

1. Define your visions and goals

Think about what you want to achieve and make a list of your wishes and goals. Questions like, “What do I want to accomplish professionally and personally?” can help bring clarity.

2. Collect pictures and other materials

Search for inspiring images, quotes, or symbols that represent your goals. Use royalty-free platforms or personal photos that match your aesthetic. I personally like to browse Pinterest or Unsplash.com for this purpose.

3. Choose the right design tool

Tools like PicMonkey or Canva offer templates and customization options for a professional design. You can start with blank designs or use existing templates. If you’re a Notion fan, you can also create a vision board there and link it directly to your goals and to-dos. Check out some Notion templates. here.

If you’d like, we can also work on your goals together in a coaching session. Just give me a call!

4. Creative implementation

Arrange the images so that they align with your goals thematically or chronologically. Add text and symbols to emphasize your vision. Play around with colors, fonts, and layouts to create the feeling you want your ideal future to convey. If you start getting excited about what you’re putting together, then you’re on the right track!

5. Add animations and effekts

Digital tools allow you to incorporate animations or interactive elements. This can help create more dynamism and make your vision board feel more lively and engaging.

6. Share your vision board

Save your finished vision board as a PNG or GIF to use on your smartphone, laptop, or even as a printed poster. If you like, share it with your friends, or keep it private to stay focused on your goals.

Tips for an effektive vision board

  • Clarify intentions: Make sure your board conveys positive goals and motivation.
  • Regular updates: Review and adjust your board regularly to reflect your evolving goals.
  • Visible placement: Position your vision board where you can see it daily—such as a desktop background or printed at your workspace.
